Motorization
We focus on designing and building high-quality Supmaran boats, while leaving the choice of propulsion system to you.
Electric trolling motors have become highly standardized products and are widely available from many suppliers online and in stores in the US. This is the reason why we are unable to offer motors at a competitive price level. Please find your best budget deal, that suits your demand, by following our recommendations:

Choice of battery
For the battery you may buy AGM or Gel batteries, but we recommend choosing a LiFePo4 100Ah 12V (capacity 1,2kWh). This modern battery technology offers lots of capacity though light weight. With this recommended capacity you will be able to ride for 7 miles or 1,5 hours full throttle or 3 hours with cruising speed (depending on wind and currents). This is usually a full day on a lake. If you need more range, we suggest buying two instead of one larger battery to carry them more easily around.

Motor Mount
The Supmaran has a square "box-style" motor mount where most motors can be mounted. Due that the handle of the motor must stand above the middle compartment and the propeller must be in water, we recommend a shaft length of 35 to 43 inch (88-110cm).
Choice of Motor
We recommend buying a 12V electric motor with approximately 60 lbs of thrust. This is enough power to travel with around 4 knots (8 km/h) of speed and have enough power to also move forward against wind. We suggest to rather invest the few Dollars more to get a brushless motor because it consumes less energy and is more durable. Such motors are starting at around 500 USD. Cheaper trolling motors (brushed ones) are available from 200 USD. To find a suitable local offer, please google "12V brushless Trolling motor 60lbs" or only “12V Trolling motor 60lbs”
